Pattern Revealing Reality

If Christianity has any chance of being a religion of peace and unity, it must understand its God in view of relationship.

God is three in one. God is relationship. The energy is in the interplay between the three. It’s three that keeps us from the binary of two. In our highly politicized, binary climate, we have no hope without a third way.

God isn’t some objective deity endorsing my criticisms of the other party. God is in the relationship I have with people from the other party. God is in the comments I post on other people’s pages, sites, and blogs. If my God is hateful, it’s likely I’m hateful. If my God is divided and against others, it probably means I’m divided and against others. But if my God is peace and unity then it gives me a chance at being a person of peace and unity.

It seems the religious people - my people - have been conformed to the patterns of the world. We’ve given ourselves over to domination, hierarchy, and winning. We are unimaginative people. Driven by fear, we cannot imagine peace and unity as anything other than weak.

But there is a stronger pattern. More imaginative too. It’s a pattern that reveals the reality of the cosmos. If Christianity has any chance of being a religion of peace and unity, it must understand its God in view of relationship.
